Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering offers B.Tech Degree program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, M.Tech Degree program in Power Systems. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories like Electrical machines, Electrical workshop, Power Electronics lab, Measurements & Instrumentation, Power system simulation Lab with software like MATLAB, MagNet, Labview, PSpice, PSIM, PSCAD and Ansys.

The Department has excellent track records right from its year of introduction in 2007 both in placements and examination results. Keeping in mind that Electrical Engineers work in the forefront and enable most of all existing technologies, EEE Department interacts and liaises with well-reputed industries to facilitate training of the students through internship programs, Industrial visits, workshops and seminars.

In order to effect a holistic development of the students, EEE Department has a vibrant student association named FETA. Routine conduct of seminars, Quiz Programs, Industrial Visits, Paper Contests, Group Discussions, Guest Lectures, Career Guidance etc., is being done through FETA.

Control Systems Lab:

In the control system lab, various experiments are conducted to explore and analyze the principles of control theory and application. Students typically engage in experiments involving different types of control systems such as PID controllers, state-space controllers, and digital controllers.

They study the characteristics of these systems through experiments like system identification, frequency response analysis, and time-domain analysis. Practical scenarios such as controlling motor speed, temperature regulation, or position control of robotic arms

are simulated to demonstrate how theoretical concepts are applied in real-world settings. The lab provides a hands-on environment where students can design, implement, and analyze control strategies to understand the behavior and performance of dynamic systems.

Electrical Measurements Lab

The Electrical Measurements Lab is a critical component of the educational curriculum for electrical engineering students. It serves as a practical complement to theoretical studies, allowing students to apply concepts and develop hands-on skills in a controlled environment. Here are additional details about the lab:
Key Components and Activities
1. Diverse Range of Instruments:
o Analog and Digital Multimeters: Used for measuring voltage, current, and resistance.
o Oscilloscopes: Essential for observing the waveform and frequency of electrical signals.
o Power Meters: Measure the power consumption and efficiency of electrical devices.
2. Measurement Techniques:
o Voltage Measurement: Techniques for measuring both AC and DC voltages with high precision.
o Current Measurement: Methods to measure currents in various circuits, including the use of shunt resistors and current transformers.
o Resistance Measurement: Utilizing Wheatstone bridges and ohmmeters for accurate resistance determination.
o Impedance and Capacitance Measurement: Employing A.C bridges to measure inductance, capacitance, and resistance in AC circuits.
3. Calibration Procedures:
o Standardization: Calibrating instruments against known standards to ensure accuracy and reliability.
o Error Analysis: Understanding and compensating for potential.
The Electrical Measurements Lab is an indispensable part of an electrical engineer’s education, providing vital hands-on experience and preparing students for the technical challenges they will encounter in their professional careers.

ELECTRICAL MACHINES-I LAB:

In the Electrical Machine-I lab, students participate in a variety of experiments focused on understanding the fundamental principles and characteristics of electrical machines. These experiments typically include testing and analyzing DC machines such as generators and motors. Students learn about the construction, operation, and performance parameters of these machines through experiments like load test, speed control, efficiency measurement, and determination of torque-speed characteristics.

They also explore methods for starting and braking DC motors, studying the impact of various control techniques on motor behavior. Additionally, the lab may involve experiments with transformers, where students investigate transformer characteristics such as voltage regulation, efficiency, and transformer loading conditions. Through hands-on activities and practical demonstrations, the Electrical Machine-I lab provides students with essential skills in operating, troubleshooting, and analyzing electrical machines, preparing them for future roles in electrical engineering and related fields.

ELECTRICAL MACHINES-II LAB:

In the Electrical Machine-II lab, students engage in advanced experiments focusing on alternating current (AC) machines and related technologies. The lab typically includes hands-on activities with synchronous machines such as alternators and synchronous motors, where students study their operation principles, characteristics, and performance parameters.

Experiments often involve load tests to determine efficiency, power factor correction, and voltage regulation of these machines under different operating conditions. Students also explore the behavior of induction machines, including three-phase induction motors, through experiments on starting methods, speed control, and torque-speed characteristics analysis. Furthermore, the lab may cover topics related to special types of motors like single-phase induction motors and universal motors, allowing students to understand their applications and performance features. Through these experiments, the Electrical Machine-II lab equips students with practical skills in analyzing and optimizing AC machines, preparing them for careers in electrical power systems, industrial automation, and renewable energy sectors.

Power Electronics Lab:

In the Power Electronics lab, students immerse themselves in experiments focused on the efficient control and conversion of electrical power. They explore a range of experiments involving semiconductor devices such as diodes, thyristors, MOSFETs, and IGBTs, which are fundamental components in power electronic circuits. Practical sessions delve into topics like rectification, AC-DC conversion, DC-DC conversion (buck, boost, and buck-boost converters), and AC-AC conversion (inverters and cycloconverters).

Students learn to design, simulate, and prototype power electronic circuits using simulation software and hardware prototyping platforms. The lab also covers advanced topics including pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques, power factor correction.

ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS-I LAB:

In the Electrical Circuits-I lab, students delve into foundational experiments essential for understanding basic electrical principles and circuit analysis techniques. The lab sessions typically begin with experiments focusing on Ohm’s Law, where students measure voltages, currents, and resistances in simple resistor circuits. They progress to experiments involving series and parallel resistor configurations, applying Kirchhoff’s Laws to analyze circuit behavior and verify calculations with practical measurements. Capacitive and inductive circuits are also explored, investigating transient responses, resonance, and the effects of frequency on circuit performance.

Throughout these experiments, students gain hands-on experience using basic laboratory equipment such as breadboards, power supplies, and oscilloscopes, developing skills in circuit construction, measurement, and troubleshooting. This practical approach not only reinforces theoretical concepts taught in lectures but also prepares students for more advanced topics in subsequent electrical engineering courses.
